Windsor Castle

The last day we were in England, we headed to Windsor Castle with Ben and his colleagues, and our friends Andrew and Rachel met us there. I had intended to take Luca and go by ourselves, but Ben was able to get Friday morning off so he could join us – and really, it was so great to have other adults there! Traveling alone with Luca was amazing but exhausting, so I really appreciated the extra hands.

We spent a tiny bit of time in the morning getting breakfast and walking around the city of Windsor. I would have loved to explore more because there seemed to be lots of fun shops and beautiful areas to walk around. We were on a bit of a time crunch since Ben and his colleagues had to get back for the afternoon, so we didn’t get to do much meandering. It was also a gorgeous day – still cloudy, but not raining! – which I wish had been the case earlier in the week when I had all the time in the world to stroll aimlessly. Oh well!

So how to describe Windsor Castle? Um, huge. HUGE. I can’t even explain how big it is. I don’t think I was ever able to capture a single building in its entirety – and there are tons of buildings that make up the whole castle!

Of course, no photos were allowed inside, so basically just imagine the most plush, luxurious, extravagant, elaborate, centuries-old decor you can picture. It was a little bit crazy.

I was the biggest fool of a tourist getting excited over the changing of the guards! It was so much fun to watch though. 🙂

We learned that these guards aren’t just props for tourists to geek out over. They are legitimate trained soldiers with actual military assignments, and they could have been on active duty the very day before. Kind of sobering!

So glad we got to make some memories with Daddy in England. ❤

(Although I will always treasure the time Luca and I spent traveling alone together. It was so challenging but so worth the experience!)

Cheers, England! See you next time.

xo!
