The other day, I was watching The Prestige (which, by the way, is a fantastic film) for the third time. Ben, who has only seen it once–years ago–walked by and said, “Oh, isn’t that the movie where XYZ happens?” And I, being halfway through the movie, felt confident in saying, “No, dummy, it’s where ABC happens.” He looked and me at said, “….Uh huh, and then XYZ happens.” And, sure enough. ABC does happen, but in the end, so does XYZ. Huh.
Ben can’t remember a discussion we had yesterday, but he does retain every minute detail from every movie he’s ever seen in the past thirty years. I, on the other hand, recall almost every conversation from my entire life, but I remember almost nothing from any movie, ever. I consider myself to be the superior party here for two reasons: 1. I remember the things that actually matter (and I remember when I should be mad at someone, whereas he TOTALLY FORGETS when someone has slighted him; talk about eternal sunshine of the spotless mind), and 2. I can rewatch movies over and over again and not be bored. It’s a gift.
Anyway. I was watching this movie on Amazon Prime Video, and you know how those little boxes pop up with trivia about the plot or the actors? WELL. I happened to pause the movie on a scene with David Bowie, and one of those boxes appeared, leading me to very randomly learn this fact: Bowie’s iconic trait of having two different colored eyes was not something he was born with. He had two blue eyes until age 15, when he was punched in the eye during a fight at school. This resulted in a traumatic hyphema….
that left his pupil permanently dilated. Permanently!
So from then on, it appeared that he had one blue eye and one dark brown eye. But he didn’t. He had one normal-sized blue iris with a normal-sized pupil, and one very small blue iris with an enormous pupil.

Wild, or what?
Having gone through about three weeks of mismatched pupils myself, I feel truly bad for the guy. Mine’s getting much better, thank you God, but my vision in the eye with the bigger pupil has been so blurry. It’s very annoying and stressful. And anything that requires looking closely, like reading or chopping an onion, is really, really hard with two different levels of vision. I can’t imagine how he dealt with it for so many years.
Protect your eyes, friends. Vision is fragile! It’s scary how fragile it is.

In other news, it was finally nice enough for us to get outside on a long nature walk last week. Praised be!

We all needed this so, so badly. The fresh air and sunshine were so good for our souls. And the kids each found a perfect hiking stick, which of course is always the goal. 😉

And speaking of praised be, the trailer for season four of The Handmaid’s Tale dropped last week, and I’m DYINNNGGG. I really can’t wait for this season, and it’s only eight weeks away!

We’ve been eating gallons of soup recently because #winter, and this lentil soup recipe from Cookie and Kate is a perennial favorite. There are over 4,000 comments on the blog post, so basically, if you’re not making this weekly, you should be. Even the kids gobble it down!

I got a trial membership to Fit Pregnancy Club last week. I felt like I wanted a workout where I didn’t have to mindfully modify for pregnancy, where the modifications were built right in. And, after trying a few workouts, I can say that the Foundations program (which is very short) is good. But the rest?
To be blunt, it bit.
The exact kind of workout I hate, where you’re doing the same circuit a hundred times over or holding a lunge and pulsing for a million seconds. Gross. I hated it. I actually missed P.Volve while I was doing these workouts. I can’t say that I’ve ever longed for a certain kind of workout before; P.Volve is seriously that good. I love it. Modifying a few moves on my own is a small price to pay for a workout that I actually enjoy. (Plus, I think P.Volve will be awesome postpartum, too!) Needless to say, I’m canceling the FPC membership; thank goodness for free trials.

On the topic of free things, have I already gushed over Peacock? I had never heard of it until my sister told me about it a few weeks ago, and hello. I didn’t even know what I was missing. It’s like any other streaming site, but it’s from NBC, so it has all the good NBC shows that have been steadily removed from Netflix over the past couple years (The Office, Parks and Rec, and tons more).
Since its Netflix departure, I’ve been really missing Parks and Rec in particular. It’s one of my all-time favorite shows, and I was genuinely bummed when it disappeared. When I found out I could watch it on Peacock, I was so excited! As previously established, I never remember anything, so I am 100% a rewatcher, plus it’s always nice to have something familiar and funny and easy-to-watch. Now, it’s often on my iPad in the background while I’m folding laundry or cleaning the kitchen. Thanks, Peacock!

On that note, guess it’s time to go make dinner. So I can clean the kitchen.
So I can make breakfast. Then clean the kitchen again.
And on and on and on until I die.
xo!
