We Have a Nursery!

It’s official! Sawyer has moved into the bunk bed in Luca’s room (I was pretty nervous about this transition, but it’s been seamless, and I’m so grateful for that), and we finally have a room that’s allllmost ready for our little lady!

I really wasn’t even sure that I would decorate the nursery until after she was born, simply because our babies always sleep in our room for at least the first several months. So really, this is more of a staging area/clothing repository. But those nesting instincts are no joke, so I’ve spent the past couple weeks scrambling to put together a pretty, cozy space for us to enjoy as we welcome home our very very very last baby.

We decided to go with a Hawaii theme since we had the greatest time as a family there, and this little one is our surprise Hawaiian souvenir.

Thank goodness for so many creative designers on Etsy who provide digital images that you can print out yourself! I was able to put things together pretty quickly once I got started on this project using some repurposed frames and pieces we already had.

There’s one glaring thing remaining from Sawyer’s “National Parks” themed nursery. 10 points to anyone who spots it!

The three colorful prints below are from locations we visited on Kauai: the NaPali Coast, Hanalei Bay (heaven on Earth!), and Poipu Beach, where we really saw sea turtles, just like in the picture. These were such a cool and special find since we have so many great memories from those spots.

And of course, a pineapple print had to happen. I loved this one because it incorporates tropical flowers, too. So sweet and pretty for our girl’s nursery.

I always like to have a cozy little nursing nook, and the view from the rocking chair is important since I’ll (hopefully) spend many hours rocking and nursing our gal here. I do want to find a tiny little stool or side table for this area to set things on like nursing pads, burp cloths, and a water bottle.

Ben and I made the candle pictured below at a candle studio here; you mix your own blend of scents and they stir it into a candle for you. We’ve done this several times, and I think this is the best one we’ve made yet! It’s scented with coconut, pineapple, sea breeze, and Hawaiian lei. I love the little bit the scent adds to the room.

More Etsy finds above the crib. The top left is a little hula dancer and she’s so cute! A note on the stuffed goat in the crib: it’s actually Sawyer’s. Luca and I bought it for baby S in Seattle when I was super pregnant with him. However, for some reason, both boys have been absolutely insistent that it’s for the baby….again. Ha! So in the crib it goes (and it will come out if she ever sleeps in here. Safety first, people).

I also adore the crib skirt I found with its different shades of peach, pink, and coral. Totally reminiscent of a beautiful Hawaiian sunset!

And one of my favorite parts of this little lady’s room: all those sweet little girl clothes in the closet! Having two older brothers, she will have plenty of unisex hand-me-downs, but I really have loved collecting a few very girly items too.

On a boring, administrative note, I’m switching email subscription providers this week, so there MAY be some issues with email deliveries if you’re subscribed to updates that way. Hopefully the kinks will get worked out quickly, but please let me know if anything is weird and you get any strange emails!

xo!
